Saint Nicholas
Greek Orthodox Church
Help viewing this site...
I can't hear St.
Nicholas' Apolitikion.
When I click to play St.
Nicholas' Apolitikion I get a message which says my file is not a RealAudio file/format.
When I click on the
photos in the Church Tour section the frame which is supposed to contain the explanation
does not correspond to or change with the photo.
The screen is cramped.
The photos/videos have
weird colors/appear gray and red.
When I try to play an
Apolitikion or video the system asks me if I want to "Save to disk" or
"Open" the file. Why isn't it playing?
When I try to email to
one of the Church contacts, it doesn't work.
How do I contact you by email?
How can I view Greek
fonts/pages? What is WEFT?
The videos appear
jerky...
What are PDF files?
I can't open/view them...
The English fonts do not
display properly...
Other problems...
1) I
can't hear St. Nicholas' Apolitikion.
There may be several causes for this. First make sure that
you have speakers which are connected to the proper sound output port on your computer.
Check that the power to your speakers is on and the volume is properly set. Also check the
volume control in your system's control panel.
For Windows 95/98 systems, double-click the little speaker
in the lower right corner of your
screen. This will lauch a volume control panel. Check that the volume is properly set.
The RealAudio player also has a volume control. Check that
it too is properly set.
If you are prompted to "Save" or "Open"
the file, you probably do not have RealAudio installed. You can download a copy of
RealAudio for free.
If you have RealAudio installed but get a file error
message you probably have an older version of RealAudio which is not compatible with the
current file format. Please download the current version of RealAudio for free.

3) When I click on the photos in
the Church Tour section
the frame which is supposed to contain the explanation
does not correspond to or change with the photo.
This is because you are using an older version of
Microsoft's Internet Explorer or a brower which is not Microsoft Internet Explorer
or
greater. You can still navigate through the site using the text hyperlinks or other
onscreen controls. Or, you can download a copy of Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

4) The screen is cramped.
This happens when your screen resolution is set for 640 x
480. If your video adapter and monitor are capable of higher resolutions set them to 800 x
600, 1024 x 768 or higher. This will give you more space on the screen.
For Windows 95/98 systems, click the right mouse button
while the mousepointer is over the desktop. Select "Properties" then
"Settings" and follow the onscreen directions for changing the resolution.
You can also change the resolution by double-clicking
"Display" in the Control Panel.

5) The photos/videos have weird
colors/appear gray and red.
This happens when your video adapter is set for less than
256 colors. Change your settings to 256 colors or greater and the photos will appear
normal.
For Windows 95/98 systems, click the right mouse button
while the mousepointer is over the desktop. Select "Properties," then
"Settings," then "Color palette" and follow the onscreen prompts.
You can also change your display settings by
double-clicking "Display" in the Control Panel.

6) When I try to play an
Apolitikion or video the system asks me if I
want to "Save to disk" or "Open" the file. Why isn't it playing?
This is because you do not have a RealAudio/Video player
installed or it is improperly configured. If you do not have a RealAudio/Video player, you
can download one for free.

RealAudio/Video player now.
If your RealAudio/Video player is improperly configured or
installed contact RealAudio for support.

9) How can I view Greek
fonts/pages? What is WEFT?
This web site displays Greek in four ways:
- As bitmaps - this method is viewable by all
browsers that support the display of bitmapped graphics
- As text using the "Symbol" font -
this method is viewable by all browsers which support the
"Symbol" font or fonts which are in the "Symbol"
family.
- As text using Greek fonts - this method is
viewable by all browsers which have multi-language support. See below for
information about installing multi-language support on your computer. This
method is commonly used to display modern Greek.
- As text using embedded Greek fonts
"WEFT" - this
method is viewable by Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This method, know as
WEFT, does not require multi-language support or fonts on the user's
computer. This method is used to display Biblical Greek. Since the
standard multi-language support for Greek does not provide fonts for
Biblical Greek, we use WEFT to display texts which are written in Biblical
Greek. The advantages of using this method are 1) the texts can be viewed,
read and printed in their authentic form and, 2) the web site visitor does
not need to purchase a font license to
view these texts. The disadvantage is that this technology is currently
supported only by Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Multi-language Support:
Some pages contain a combination of standard Greek fonts and English
fonts. To view these properly your browser and system must be set up for
multi-language
support. The link below will help you configure your system.
Please click here to learn how to configure your browser for Greek.
If your browser does not support languages other than
English please download a copy of Microsoft's Internet Explorer or a higher
version if you already have it installed. IE5 has built-in multi-language
support which will make it easier to view Greek fonts, etc.

10) The videos appear jerky...
This is normal. The videos were rendered for 28.8K modems
which means the quality of the video is lost in order to be able to view at a slow speed.
Future videos will be optimized for higher connection speeds.

Explorer now.
Most sound and video problems can be resolved by using

11) What are PDF

almost any computer which has Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. This is a free
program from Adobe which runs on many platforms. If you would like to
view/print any of the PDF files from our site, please download a copy of Adobe
